Introducing Shinty to London: Saturday 22nd July 2006 sees a historical event taking place in West London. For the first time in over eighty years, a game of shinty will be played outwith Scotland.

Since their inception, over 100 years ago (est. 1894), London Camanachd have had to play cup games north of the border. This year marks a milestone, as shinty governing body, the Camanachd Association, have let the great celtic game be played south of Hadrian's Wall.

Having reformed last year, after an absence of 10 years, London Camanachd, the former Camanachd Cup quarter finalists, shintys premier competition, will see them pitted against The Highlanders.

This will be the 2nd leg of the Bullough Cup, the two teams first crossing camans in Musselburgh on Saturday 8th July. Having played each other in the same competition last year, in a tie with the Highlanders won emphatically, London Camanachd have regrouped and are more than up to the challenge.

Their chieftain, Eric Morrison, from Dingwall said, 'No matter what the result of the 22nd, a precedent has been set. To be part of such a defining moment in the development of shinty, is something that gives us a lot of pride here at London Cam.

We've learn't a lot of the last year, and really feel that the results we had last year did not merit the work that everybody here as put in. We've really worked hard for the upcoming games, and with a great home support, we can do London Scots proud'.

The throw up will be at 2.30pm at the Tir Connail pitches off Berkeley Avenue, Greenford, Middlesex, UB6 (between A40 and A4090 - nearest tube/rail station Greenford on Central Line).
