The next Scots In London? Quarterly Drinks - The Bonniest Burns Supper in World, sponsored by Whyte and Mackay, will take place on Tuesday 6th February from 6.30pm sharp for 7.15pm at The Porterhouse, a stones throw from SIL HQ in Covent Garden. The Porterhouse is a fantastic celtic bar across many levels, which sets the scene perfectly for an informal Burns evening as Rabbie would have liked it! We've got a braw SIL Burns line-up. As you approach you'll hear the skirl of the pipes from the legendary Pinstripe Highlanders. We're delighted to have Nigel Griffiths MP Nigel Griffiths MP for Edinburgh South, Deputy Leader of the House of Commons, reciting Tam O'Shanter, his 'party piece'. The much in demand Burns speaker, Stewart Lait, of Friends of Scottish Rugby fame, will be Addressing the Haggis and fabulous Scottish Tenors, Goldie and Grant, will be hot footing it over from the Royal Opera House to sing for us and Heidi Mathers and the Heather Belles will be Highland/Sword dancing at various locations around the bar throughout the evening. This year, the Immortal Memory will be performed by Scottish Poet, Richard Price, Head of Modern British Collections at the British Library and Donald McPherson will play Holy Willie. There will be a lively band from 9pm and the evening will be captured on film by SIL Professional Photographer Ian Macaulay, who will be leading a team of Paps! Carriages from 11pm. Tickets are GBP20, which includes a fabulous informal Burns Supper of haggis, neeps and tatties washed down by two Whyte and Mackay whiskies, great company, Scottish fayre, song and dance and plenty bonnie lassies - just as Rabbie would have liked it! ; - ).
