On Wednesday 21 November The Scottish Piping Society of London under the leadership of Pipe Major Roger Huth will put on an evening of piping on the great highland bagpipe and on the small pipes by leading pipers in the South East as well as up-and-coming youngsters.
In addition to Roger, pipers include Ian King, formerly piper to HRH Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, and Neil Esslemont, well known on the highland dance circuit, Hamish Robertson, a quartet from the Pinstriped Highlanders led by Stuart Murray and others. There will be a varied programme of solo and ensemble playing including examples of pibroch. Piping and dancing are closely associated and there will also be short displays of highland and country dancing accompanied by the pipes.
The event will be held in the Music Room of the Caledonian Club, 9A Halkin Street, London SW1 (nearest tube Hyde Park Corner, free parking in Belgrave Square after 1830) and will run from 1830 to about 2015 with a break for drinks from a cash bar. Canapés will be served. Members and their guests are welcome. Admission is £15.
The Scottish Piping Society of London was formed in 1932 to promote and enhance solo piping in the London area through good instruction and competition.
