The World Ceilidh Festival is a world of top quality music in a natural greenfield amphitheatre inthe Galloway hills. A family welcoming festival, the event featuresoutdoor and covered stages, a dance marquee, a Celtic Longhouse, achildren's area, fire shows, open mic, music, dance, craft and heritageworkshops, camping, real ale, food, shopping and an un-rivalledgrassroots ambience. The musical programme’s emphasis is on Celtic, world roots and fusion music. This leads to an eclectic, genre defyingline-up encompassing styles from psychedelic and rock to hip hop andjazz.
Now in its tenth year the festival is an established eventin the region. It has grown since its beginnings in 1998 while stillremaining an intimate and hospitable experience, welcoming people fromall over Scotland, the UK and beyond for a relaxed, inspiring andriotous four days! There is an emphasis on as much environmentallysound practice as possible, with a rigorous recycling policy, use ofbiodegradable products and alternative sources of power whereverpossible, and ‘green’ and heritage workshops available to participatein during the day.
The World Ceilidh is part of KnockengorrochCommunity Interest Company, which aims to raise awareness of theheritage of the area, bringing 'music to the hills and people to theland’ and re-populating a once densely populated glen.
