London Gaelic Choir - Coisir Lunnainn - New members are always welcome. Read on for more information about the Choir and for answers to some frequently asked questions. • What is Còisir Lunnainn? Còisir Lunnainn (aka the London Gaelic Choir) is a London-based choir that is open to anyone who has an interest in Gaelic music, the traditional music of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. We sing as a four-part choir - soprano, alto, tenor and bass. • Is there an audition? No - if you would like to join, just get in touch, ask one of our members or turn up at one of our regular rehearsals. • Do I have to be able to read music? No - tuition in the music is provided. Some of our members use traditional music notation, others use ‘sol-fa’ notation - and others just learn by ear! • Do I have to be able to speak Scottish Gaelic? No - again, tuition in Scottish Gaelic is provided. Some of our members are native speakers of the language, others have learnt it and others just learn the words of the individual songs that we perform. • When, and where, do you meet? Once a week on Tuesday evenings at 7:00pm in the hall of Crown Court Church, Russell Street, Covent Garden, London WC2 (enter by the lane that runs beside the Fortune Theatre – the theatre that’s currently performing ‘The Woman in Black’). Nearest Tube: Covent Garden. • Apart from weekly rehearsals, what else do you do? We perform regularly at events in London throughout the year and, every October, we visit Scotland to perform as a choir at the Royal National Mòd - the annual festival of Gaelic music and culture. And let’s not forget our monthly céilidhs and our weekly visits to a nearby pub after rehearsals! • How can I find out more? Ask any of our members, send us an e-mail on coisirlunnainn@fmail.co.uk - or just continue browsing around our website! Thanks for your interest in our Choir! Taing airson ur n-ùidh anns a’ Chòisir againn!
