Back Scotland's Bid to host 2014 Commonwealth Games. Scots in Londonand Whyte and Mackay are calling on you to join a host of famous Scotsto Back Scotland's Bid to bring the 2014 Commonwealth Games to Glasgow. Famous names that have pledged their support already include ColinMontgomerie, Lulu, Nick Nairn, Olympic champion Chris Hoy and TheProclaimers. Thousands of people living in Scotland have registeredtheir support as well as local authorities, schools, sports clubs andcompanies, including Whyte and Mackay, BAA, Morrisons, Scotrail andBaxters.

People can pledge their support in three ways:
  1. By registering at www.glasgow2014.com;
  2. By texting 'bid' to 61611;
  3. By completing and returning a campaign postcard.
Hosting the 2014 Commonwealth Games will bring substantial economicbenefits to both the city and the country, including regeneration oftransport, housing and the environment.

New and renovated sporting facilities will give Scotland a platform topromote healthy living and sport throughout the country. It will alsooffer Scotland's sports men and women a chance to shine - results fromprevious games show that when held on home territory, the number ofmedals a country wins increases.

In addition, hosting the games is a fantastic opportunity to showmillions of people across the world that Scotland is a modern,ambitious and dynamic nation, capable of staging an internationalevent.

Glasgow has submitted a strong bid but faces competition from Abuja inNigeria and Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. The final decision on whowill be awarded the 2014 Games will be made in November 2007.
