United by a sense of solidarity ahead of today’s Friendship Cup between India and Pakistan at the Clydesdale Cricket Ground in Glasgow, team captains Shohib Malik and Rahul Dravid took a moment to speak about Glasgow’s 2014 Commonwealth Games bid.

Shohib Malik, captain of the Pakistani cricket team, said: “I love being in Glasgow, it’s such a friendly city.  I think you would put on a wonderful Commonwealth Games.  There is a fantastic sense of solidarity with other nations around the Commonwealth and a real passion for sport in your country, so why shouldn’t Glasgow win the bid?”

Rahul Dravid, captain of the Indian cricket team, said: “I’m really excited by this visit to Glasgow, it’s such a vibrant city and I know it would do a great job of hosting the Games. Glasgow has all the essential ingredients of a great Bid – a welcoming population who are fully committed to winning, an extraordinary love of sport and a plan for regeneration that will leave a lasting legacy for Scotland. Glasgow 2014 would be a sporting and cultural extravaganza and I wish Scotland every success."
