The following information has been released by the Commonwealth Games Federation today. We expect the Evaluation Commission to visit Glasgow between 10 and 14 June 2007. Further details on their itinerary and media access will be made available nearer the time.

The Commonwealth Games Federation is pleased to announce that John Tierney, from the Cook Islands, has been named Chair of the Commonwealth Games Federation's 2014 Evaluation Commission that will visit candidate cities Abuja, Nigeria and Glasgow, Scotland in June.

Mr Tierney, the CGF Regional Vice President for Oceania, will head a five-strong team. The other members are:

Dato' Sieh Kok Chi - Secretary General of the Olympic Council of Malaysia Dr Larry Davis – Secretary General of the Bahamas Olympic Association Mike Hooper – Chief Executive Officer, Commonwealth Games Federation Craig McLatchey – Chief Executive Officer, Event Knowledge Services

Mr Mike Fennell, OJ, CD, President of the Commonwealth Games Federation, said: "I am delighted that John Tierney has agreed to lead the Evaluation Commission. He is a very experienced sports official and he has a very knowledgeable team behind him. We have two very strong bids and I am anticipating a keen battle that goes right to the finishing line."

The Evaluation Commission will visit the bidding cities to inspect the sites proposed for the Commonwealth Games and to hold meetings on all aspects and themes of the candidature.

Following the visits, the Evaluation Commission will produce a report based on its technical evaluation to assist CGF voting members to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the bids as well as the primary differences in the proposals of each city. The report will be made public at least two months before the vote.

The formal bid documents from Abuja and Glasgow are to presented to the Commonwealth Games Federation in London on May 9. The final vote between Abuja and Glasgow will be taken by the CGF's 71 member nations at their General Assembly in Sri Lanka on November 9.
