The outreach programme will travel the length and breadth of the country encouraging even more people to back Scotland’s Bid for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Local children from Lochans Primary School and the Convenor of Dumfries and Galloway Council Tommy Sloan were the first people to sign a message of good luck on a huge banner that will form the backdrop for a Glasgow2014 event on Decision Day.

Speaking as he cut a giant bow unveiling Glasgow 2014’s first ‘wrapped’ car Tommy Sloan, Convenor of Dumfries and Galloway Council said; “’I’m delighted our town has been chosen to kick-off the Back Scotland’s Bid outreach campaign. Everyone in Stranraer and across the region of Dumfries and Galloway is totally committed to supporting Glasgow 2014. We look forward to helping bring the Games to Scotland in anyway we can and in particular to welcoming the O2 Commonwealth Sporting Heroes exhibition to the Ryan Centre in June 11th”.

The programme, kicked off in Stranraer, will finish at Scotland’s most northerly point, John O’Groats, in October. On route it will stop off at community and large-scale sporting and non-sporting events, including Glasgow’s Woman’s 10k, the Gourock Highland Games and Rock Ness before heading overseas to Sri Lanka where the decision on who will win the right to host the Games will be made on November 9th.

Charged with taking the banner and Bid message across Scotland, Lesley Shaw of Glasgow 2014 said; “I’m really looking forward to getting out on the open road and visiting places I’ve never been to. I’d love to be part of a passionate home crowd who roar our athletes on to medal success on home soil. So it’s a pleasure to take the Bid message around the country, encouraging Scots to continue backing the bid. That way we will have a strong message to take to the Commonwealth Federation and to Sri Lanka on Decision Day.”
