Hilton Glasgow has signed up to be the official hotel of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Bid, it was confirmed today. All 71 Commonwealth voters will stay their this summer.

The deal means all 71 Commonwealth voters who will evaluate the City this summer will stay at the Hilton Glasgow. The 2014 team also has access to a permanent Bid Centre that will host briefings, presentations and meetings.

The announcement was made today during a celebrity charity tug-of-war, which saw The Hilton Foundation donate £10,000 to Barnardo’s work with vulnerable children and young people in Glasgow and to The Royal Hospital for Sick Children.

Derek Casey, Glasgow 2014 Bid Director, said; “I am delighted Hilton Glasgow is the latest big name to join the team. Everyone at Hilton Glasgow is behind the Bid and I am confident our guests will enjoy the best possible experience of our City from the moment they arrive.

Casey goes on to say; “This summer the voters who will ultimately decide who wins the 2014 Games will visit Glasgow. It is vitally important we ensure they experience the very best Glasgow has to offer, from cultural events to restaurants, pubs and hotel accommodation throughout the City.

Craig Gardener, Hilton Area Manager for Glasgow said: “Winning the bid for the 2014 Commonwealth Games will have substantial benefits for the City and for Scotland and the Hilton Glasgow is delighted to be part of the 2014 team.

“Scotland is renowned for its hospitality and the Hilton Glasgow has an established reputation for quality and service which we look forward to extending to our Commonwealth guests.”

Speaking on behalf of both charities to benefit from the tug-of-war event Ian Turner, Assistant Director, Barnardo’s Scotland, said; “We would very much like to thank The Hilton Foundation for their generous donation to Barnardo’s work in Glasgow through a celebrity tug-of-war event. The money will make a huge difference to the lives of vulnerable children that we work with in the Glasgow area who face disadvantage in their lives. Barnardo’s relies on voluntary income and welcomes any donations.”
