The first group of people who will have the final say on Glasgow’s Bid for the 2014 Commonwealth Games have today arrived in Scotland.

The voters from the Commonwealth Games Federation's European Region are in the city to hear about Glasgow’s plans for the Games, tour facilities and to meet key people from the Scottish government, City Council and the Commonwealth Games Council for Scotland.

Welcoming them to Glasgow, Sports Minister Patricia Ferguson said: “I am delighted to welcome the delegates from the Commonwealth Games European Region to Glasgow and to Scotland. They have a busy three days ahead of them, but I know that they will be impressed by Glasgow and the tremendous support that the Bid has generated right across the country.

“Winning these Games means so much to Scotland. They will inspire thousands of young people to take up the challenge of sport. They will make sure that our fantastic country is given global exposure like never before. And they will give ordinary Scots the chance to be a part of something that they will never forget.

“This is the first group of voters who will visit the city over the next year or so. We are determined to make sure that they leave knowing that Glasgow is the ideal host for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.”
