Brian Cox, star of films Braveheart, The Bourne Supremacy and The Ring, chose to support Diabetes UK at the premiere of his latest film, The Escapist at Regent Street’s Apollo Cinema on Tuesday 10 June.

Brian, who has diabetes, was joined by co-stars Dominic Cooper, Steven Mackintosh and director Rupert Wyatt as well as a number of celebrity guests including Angus Deayton, Big Brother twins Samanda and rugby star Kyran Bracken.

The premiere took place during Diabetes Week (8 – 14 June) - the annual focal point of Diabetes UK fundraising, awareness and campaigning activities.

Brian said: “I’m really happy to be part of an evening that addresses not only an important issue for me but one of the biggest health challenges currently facing the UK.

“I am grateful for the work Diabetes UK champions in helping the two million people in the UK living with diabetes as well as its work in raising awareness among those at risk of developing this serious condition.”

Dominic Hourd, Diabetes UK Events Fundraising Team Manager, said: “We’re extremely pleased Brian chose to support us at his film premiere.  The proceeds from ticket sales will go a long way in helping us continue to fund research, support people with diabetes, and improve public awareness.”
