Great Scottish 100 - 100 mile walking challenge through Scotland's beautiful scenerySaturday, 17th October 2009 will be the start of a new event The Great Scottish 100 taking place over a period of six days and covering some of Scotland's most stunning landscapes.

Walkerswill travel through six beautiful and distinctly different areas of the Scottish Highlands & Borders along routes planned especially for usby Scotland's award winning adventure holiday company ‘WildernessScotland’.

The Concept: Awalking challenge of 100 miles in 6 days over 6 different routes throughout Scotland. Each route will average 16.5 miles. The final and 100th Mile will be ‘The Royal Mile Walk’; everyone will parade down Edinburgh’s Royal Mile to the official finishing line at The Palace of Holyrood.

The Great Scottish 100 is designed to be a challenging but achievable event. Walkers can enter as a team of 4-6 people or as individuals.

No time to spare or would you prefer a shorter alternative then why not choose two or three consecutive days out of the six routes that you like, you can even choose just one of the routesand have a great day out hill walking.

Start Areas Activities: In addition to The Great Scottish 100 a series of fundraising and accessible mini walks will be held at each of the start areas, ideal for local participants not taking part in the major event.

The event finishes on Friday 23th October with The Royal Mile Walk: the 100th Mile and the Presentation of Medals.

Thiswill be a Celebration Parade of all The Great Scottish 100 walkers fromEdinburgh Castle to The Palace of Holyrood. Walkers will lead theparade followed, pipe bands and an open top bus will add to the funcarnival atmosphere of the parade. At the conclusion of The Royal MileWalk to The Palace of Holyrood all walkers will be presented with theirGreat Scottish 100 completion medals.

Due to the nature of theevent entries will have to be restricted.
