London Scottish yesterday embarked on a new era when its members overwhelmingly backed plans to set up a new company as an investment vehicle. More than 96% of those attending the club's Annual General Meeting or who voted by proxy agreed the committee's proposal.
Speakers at the meeting included David Reid, who played for every team in a long career at the club, and broadcaster and former London Scot Chris Rea, who played 13 times for Scotland at inside centre from 1968-71.
Reid and Rea are expected to join the board of the new company, as will two others from the investment group, Greg Knight - also a former player - and Gerald Porter. The group, comprising nine members of the club, has pledged funds over three years.
The investors have clearly stated they expect no return or dividend - they merely want to help the club progress, and by doing so to provide a solid base in the south for Scottish rugby to build on as it did historically.
Further details will be announced shortly, however it marks an exciting and historic moment in the club's history on it's 130th Anniversary.
Kind Regards
Buffy Mair.
