Children sit exams called Standard Grades at age 16. Children are given help choosing subjects they would like to continue studying at Secondary school (Upper Secondary) or at college. When children are age 16-18 they have the choice of:
In Upper Secondary, subjects are studied at different levels for examinations and/or National Certificate assessment. Certain subjects may be taken in Sixth Year only for the Advanced Higher.
