Notes to Editors: Emma-Jane Thommen - Listen to "This City" Emma-Jane Thommen: Born in North London, raised in Edinburgh, with parents from Yorkshire & Swiss ancestry, Emma-Jane began playing piano aged six after becoming bored of the wait during her older sister's piano lessons, and so decided to join in... the love of music was born... The early years were spent learning several instruments and it became apparent she had a natural ability to play by ear - much to the frustration of her music teachers who wanted her to read music in a very methodical manner. Musical influences growing up included an eclectic mix of styles from the country sounds of Johnny Cash to the rock and pop sounds of Queen, Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, and The Beatles, along with fellow singer-songwriters Joni Mitchell, Tracy Chapman, Carol King, Sheryl Crow, Carly Simon and Tori Amos to name a few. Emma-Jane began songwriting in her teens and formed a band in Edinburgh where they garnered impressive reviews such as "Polished, quick to impress" and "A singer-songwriter with presence as well as potential" for the first gig they ever played together. The resounding success of this led to further gigs around Edinburgh, each gaining larger audiences and a wider fan base. Now based in London where she has been a regular at respected venues such as The Bedford, The Cobden Club and Ginglik along with numerous piano bars. Emma-Jane now performs most nights either solo or with her band, travelling as far afield as Egypt, Switzerland, Germany, Austin Texas - at the South By South West Music Festival - and more recently Los Angeles. Her self-titled debut album has also been gaining radio airplay on Onda Cera Radio station in Spain. Having had some great opportunities to write and record with such talents as Steve Balsamo, The Storys, Jamie Hartman of Ben's Brother, Henry Priestman of The Christians, Cliff Jones of the band Gay Dad, Ben "Jammin" Robbins, Tom Rothrock, Mick Lister, Gil Cang, and more recently attended Chris Difford's writing week in Italy - Emma-Jane continues to write and perform regularly and a second album is in the making... watch this space!
