ImageThe most stylish Burns Weekend in London at Albannach Scottish Bar and Restaurant Saturday 24th January 2009 festivities start from 5pm Sunday 25th January 2009 festivities start from 5pm ImageWhere else to celebrate the 250th birthday of Rabbie Burns, Scotland’s most famous son, than at Albannach, London’s finest Scottish bar and restaurant? With festivities taking place on two nights, Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th January, Albannach will throw open its doors for an exclusive event to commemorate this most special of birthday parties. The night will feature a sumptuous five-course feast that showcases the best of Scottish produce, followed by the revelry of a céilidh long into the night. Having been welcomed by a bagpiper, patriotic Scots and sympathetic Sassenachs will enjoy an elegant reception in the lounge bar, which will be adorned with Scottish heathers, thistles and tartans. There they can raise a cheer to the birthday boy with a Robert Burns Classic Collins, made using Albannach’s own 10 year-old Islay single malt whisky; a classic champagne cocktail; or a choice of Albannach’s own special Scottish beers. Once guests are seated, the master of ceremonies will then give a spirited rendition of the Selkirk Grace and the meal will begin with a miniature Buccleuch beef and Albannach 80 Shilling Ale pie, accompanied by a Scottish heather honey hot toddy; followed by Scotch broth or cock-a-leekie soup. Of course, Burns’ Night would not be complete without haggis and so following a reading of the poet’s classic ode to the ‘great chieftain o’ the puddin’ race’ and its ceremonial cutting at the high table, guests will enjoy a traditional haggis wi' bashit neeps an' champit tatties with a glass of carefully chosen wine to match. The birthday repast will continue with a choice of two classic desserts - clootie dumpling, prepared in a linen cloth or ‘cloot’; or tipsy laird, the tempting Scottish take on sherry trifle; and a glass of dessert wine to match. Burn’s humorous toast ‘To The Lassies’ will follow, as will a special selection of cheese - Highland Blue, Killiechronan goat’s cheese, Isle of Mull cheddar and Arran Mist brie, served with celery, own-made chutney and oat cakes. The meal concludes with coffee, hand-made Scottish tablet, miniature sugar-dusted heather shortbread and an all important nip of Albannach’s own malt whisky. Feasting over, the compere will lead a rousing chorus of Auld Lang Syne, before inviting guests to join the whirl of céilidh dancing into the small hours of the morning. An authentic Celtic band will perform classic Scottish tunes while a caller instructs on key moves to ensure that no one misses out on any of the fun. Lovers of a wee dram may also choose to try a drop or two from Albannach’s renowned 170-strong whisky list. This fabulous birthday bash, including the five-course meal and entertainment is available for £85 per person, or £125 with matched wines, the toddy and shot of whisky. Reservations are essential.
